About tHe Nith Hotel, Dumfries
The Nith Hotel, Glencaple has been owned by the Houliston family for over 60 years. The first generation to take control were Billy & Betty Houliston. Billy, a well known local celebrity and former Scotland International Footballer also played for local Dumfries team, Queen of the South FC. The late Keith Houliston then took the reins with wife Joan and today the hotel is managed by mother and daughter team Joan & Jennifer Houliston. Jennifer, the 3rd generation to run the Nith Hotel, Dumfries is focused on providing clients with quality at an affordable price.
The Nith Hotel appeals to a wide range of people, many coming back year after year – birdwatchers, wildfowlers, golfers, cyclists and walkers as well as visitors attending local events and some who come simply to relax, unwind and take in the beautiful surroundings. Glencaple is a special place to many. Just 4 miles south of Dumfries, The Nith Hotel, formerly the Nith Coffee House, sits at the very heart of the village, opposite the historic Glencaple Quay. The village of Glencaple was developed as a port for nearby Dumfries in 1746. The historic core of the village lies near to the quayside and hotel. In the late nineteenth century the village contained a boatyard as well as many small businesses associated with the riverside location.
